Your Practice Setting
Avoiding distractions is probably one of my favorites of all tips. Shutting off or muting your electronic devices while practicing can bring such a calm state of mind, enhancing the practice and bringing you an overall sense of peace. Your practice is a sacred time where you can relax in savanna (resting pose) or balance on one foot all with focused intention. When there is noise, movement or clutter in the space it makes all the more difficult to not only set your intentions but to focus on it.
Neat & Smells good
Make sure that your space is clear and clean of any dust, pet hair, etc. This will not only help you in your practice, it will help your mat and props last longer. Using aromatherapy to create a peaceful, calm environment is always a plus. Avoid burning incense in small spaces or just maybe lite it up and shut off after a few moments.
Soft lighting works for most people while having a well lit room is what other prefer. This is a personal choice, just be sure that you are comfortable and have no objects in your way that can cause harm or injury.
Make sure to have a mat that is comfortable for you, 2 blocks, a blanket or shawl and a meditation pillow (if you can). Using props can be incredibly helpful throughout your practice and will also assist in postures.
